What does a stylist do?

In short - a lot more than just styling! Often, the whole pre-to-post-production process involves taking on a number of different roles, from creative direction advisor, campaign strategist, trend forecaster, planning and logistics manager to budget controller, location scout, crew booker, set designer, props source-er and all-round problem solver.

With over two decades experience styling for stills shoots, set dressing for filming and dressing venues for events, I’m adept at working on jobs of various scales, from single-day set-ups to complex multi-day, multi-location projects. I’m also pretty practical and hands-on, and have made various shoot props over the years, alongside creating DIY and craft project tutorials and step-by-step guides for magazines, blogs and books.

Having worked on hundreds of editorial features and commercial campaigns, my aesthetic naturally brings in a trend-informed, editorial sensibility which feels contemporary and fresh across product shots, set-dressed spaces and campaign imagery.

  • “We worked with Jo for our last two major flooring launches. She saw the whole process through from initial design concept to drawing up detailed overall looks for each product. With an excellent eye for the smallest details and an intimate knowledge of London’s best prop houses, she can conjure up any roomset you might request. She worked closely and expertly with our photographers to create images that exceeded expectations.”
