Writing isn’t usually just about writing when the topic is design: as images are usually integral to the stories being told, often my commissions are based around image sourcing and format development just as much as penning the words themselves.

I’ve been producing written content for brands, books and magazines across the last two decades, from creating copy to accompany specific shots to seeking out and selecting the images (or commissioning custom illustrations) I think will best fit the narrative.

I pride myself in researching my topics in forensic detail (internet rabbit holes are where I often reside), and I always like to dig a little deeper into decoding designs (from why certain colours, textures or objects make us feel a certain way, to how readers can utilise this to design their dream space). With one eye on the bigger picture and the other on the micro-details, I work hard to ensure my features are cohesive, informative and hopefully a little entertaining, too.

Working across both the magazine publishing and commercial sectors gives my work a trend-informed, editorial style which feels contemporary yet relatable.

My experience styling real homes for editorial features, and dressing sets for commercial shoots, means I’m well placed to advice homeowners/renters looking for home decor advice, too.

WRITING & FEATURES PRODUCTION:

With my journalistic features-writing hat on, I am constantly looking for interesting brand images which are trend led but, most importantly, tell a story and have a consistent narrative.

When I style shoots for brands, I always keep this in mind, considering the opportunities my styling can tell a story and increase its likelihood of press coverage.

As part of a shoot commission, I can help craft corresponding copy that tells these stories, which can be issued in your press releases, included in your lookbook, or act as accompanying words for your blog or social media campaigns.

TREND FORECASTING:

My work in trend forecasting ensures my knowledge of trends, and how they can influence commercial styling, is both helpful and informative to brands.
